The Merley Veterans are an over 35 team,
who play in a small league each season.2007 - 2008 Season
Sunday 26th November 2007 Merley Allendale Vets 0
Flintstone Vets 1
Tough game. Everyone on the field fought hard
against sometimes what were a very ‘physical’ side. Merley managed to hold
their own for the whole of the first half. The second half, a lapse in
concentration, gave the opposing team the opportunity to net a goal,
bringing the score to 0-1.
With tired legs and bodies, Merley fought on but
to no avail. However, there were some great individual performances,
culminating in ‘man of the match’ being David Mulliner. Well done Dave.
Sunday 11th November 2007 Merley Allendale Vets 2
Weymouth Vets 5
This was the first Veteran’s game of the season
and we were off to our normal shaky start, due to players being fairly
unfamiliar with each other, due to having a few new faces within the team.
Within four minutes we were behind, as a result
of a corner kick, which eluded everybody. However, John Ryall levelled the
score after 7 minutes. Then our defence committed footballing suicide and we
conceded 2 more goals within 8 minutes. But Steve Williams pulled a wind
assisted (weather wind!) goal back, which brought the score to 2-3. Well
done Steve!
During the second half of the match, we started to play
some good football, passing the ball, but unfortunately in the 58th and 72nd
minute we conceded another 2 goals, bringing the final score to a loss of 2
-5.
Well done to all the Veterans for today’s effort.
If we keep this group of players together I am sure the results will come.
