Sturmy 5 Merley 1
A very good all round team performance considering
we were short of 3 players and this is a team that will finish in the
top 2 for sure.
Merley started very brightly and took the lead with
a Sean volley, crossed in nicely by Scott.
Sturmey are a very strong organized team and at
half time were 3-1 up, which was a little flattering.
The second half was fast and furious and both teams
created lots of chances.
Final score was 5-1, but it could have been much
closer had we taken our chances and not let in 2 silly goals.
M.o.M Matthew White
Merley 3 lytchett 1
Both teams started well in this hard fought match
and the visitors took the lead with a penalty.
The team talk before the match concentrated on
running at the Lytchett defence as a little
homework was done on this before the game. Declan rose to the challenge
and scored a fine individual goal which left the visitors a little
nervous.
Ashley came on just before half time and scored
with a fine strike almost instantly, 2-1 at half time.
Merley came out the second half much the better
team and to be honest could have doubled the score line, but we wasted
many attacking chances by shooting far too early and not making lytchett
defend .Our third goal came from a corner from Mitchell and Scott headed
home.
A great all round effort from the boys, which
turned out to be a difficult day.
Man of the match went to Matthew White who was
determined and gave his all at the back
A big thanks to all Merley parents /spectators
whose behaviour and support was much appreciated.
Wimborne 0 Merley 4
One word springs to mind for this performance –SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was by far the best match the boys have ever
played; this was silky football at its best.
Merley could have been 7 or 8 up at half time if it
wasn’t for the woodwork (PLASTIC) and keeper .The boys were very patient
and kept playing some great footie and eventually we scored 3 goals in
the first half, 2 from Freddie and 1 from Scott.
The game flowed very well and it was a pleasure to
watch both teams play.
Wimborne had chances but there were some very good
saves from Adam and some fine defending work from Declan and Matthew.
Mitchell was strong in midfield and I'm sure his
girlfriend who was present would have been proud of him.
With Sean and Scott providing the ammo for Freddie,
we really did look like a classy team.
Second half was very much the same except we didn’t
quite have the cutting edge and our 4th goal came from a very
good cross from Alex which was put in the net by Freddie for his
hatrick, just before he was replaced by James.
A few milestones here: first ever clean sheet in
the league, biggest win in the league, biggest winning margin and our
longest winning streak in the league!
Great stuff guys!!!!

Merley 1 Longfleet 8
We knew this was going to be a real tough game as
Longfleet are probably the strongest team in the league.
Merley started very well ,looked composed and
organized at the back and to be honest were the better team in the first
5-10 minutes.
We found it hard to push forward though due to
playing too deep.
Longfleet scored 3 very good goals in the first
half, which could have been more if it wasn’t for some really good
defending work from Matthew White and an outstanding save from Adam
Lloyd.
Merley came out the second half which a slightly
changed team and almost instantly scored with Ashley Mutton.
At 3-1 it seemed that we were back in the game but
we lost our shape and Longfleet went on to score 5 more.
Not too disappointed Longfleet were very strong and
look like it’s them or Christchurch for the league title.
We had a real hard start to the season and
hopefully we can take the positives from today to next week’s game
against Lytchett.
I am pleased to report that the boys behaviour was
a lot better this week, lets hope this continues.
Found it hard to pick a man of the match so I gave
it to all the team
Special thank you to Jane hill for refereeing, without her kindly
volunteering we would not have a home ref this season .If anybody else
is interested in refereeing please come forward as it would be nice to
share this role.Christchurch Youth 13 Merley 1
Have included the Christchurch match report as I
thing this shows a fair report on the game.
1st half behaviour from and let me
stress not all the boys was appalling with constant arguments. Ashley
Mutton scored his first goal of the season from a Sean Hill free kick
half way through the first half.
Plus points of this game was a fine 1st
outing out for Alex Lindsay who really worked hard and Sean Hill in the
second half as stand-in striker.
Merley and us were the only two teams in the league who had played two;
won two so we were not sure what to expect. Talking to their manager
before, they had been together some years and were in the league last
season. Still, we started well; again passing the ball well and Jake
scored early. He then scored a penalty after a hand ball and throughout
the first half we scored at regular intervals. This seemed to come as
quite a shock to Merley and their team started arguing with each other.
After we were 5 up they scored a goal but by half time we were 9 1 up.
Their manager must have given them quite a talk at half time because
they played much better in the second half but we still added 4 goals
without reply. A special mention to Josh in goal. He was called upon
three or four times in the second half and made some very good saves

Friendly Match Sat 30/08/08
Merley u10s 3 Merley u11s 2
The movers did very well in this hard fought
friendly last Saturday. The game was played in the right spirit, highly
entertaining and although we rode our luck at times we were unlucky not
to finish with a draw .two good goals from Freddie and Scott was nice to
see and I thought the overall performance was an improvement on last
season. It was also nice to see certain players trying different
positions in which they done very well (Ashley in particular). Man of
the match went to Declan who had a fine debut for the team.
Wareham 2 Merley 3 sept 14th 08
Our first league game away to Wareham was probably the best the boys
have ever
played together.
Merley started brightly with a slightly different formation to last year
and could have been 4 or five goals up in the first 20 minutes.
The first goal came 3/4s of the way through the first half when Freddie
Pitfield managed to find the net from a very tight angle.
Merley finished the half by far the best team and 1-0 up.
A quick team talk on our defending positions and we came out just as
strong in the second half and Freddie Pitfield quickly scored to make it
2-0.
The game should have been over but Wareham came back and scored two
goals
to make it 2-2.
I think I counted at least 9 good chances from the team before Freddie
Pitfield finally got his hatrick, which involved a superb passing move
from
the guys.
After that it was mainly Merley and to be honest I cant believe we
didn’t
score more.
This was an outstanding team performance from everybody involved and my
hardest job of the day was to award the man of the match to Mitchell
Saltmarsh who was outstanding in his new role.
Could have not wished for a better start to our season lets keep it up
lads!
