Match Reports

Sunday 16th September 2007   Christchurch Youth 10   Merley Allendale 0
The movers found it very tough going during their first game last Sun against a very strong Christchurch Side.50 mins of football took its toll on our relatively small squad and the boys done very well to keep the score line down as Christchurch dominated throughout.
Man of the match was Adam Lloyd.

Sunday 23rd September 2007   Merley Allendale 3   Rossgarth 1
The season started last Sunday as the movers dominated the game and got there first win of the season. Fine goals from Dan Coombes and Freddie Pitfield (2) made sure the movers picked up the 3 points. It was a great effort by the whole squad.
Well done boys !!!!!!!

Sunday 30th September 2007   Merley Allendale 0   Ringwood Rangers 4
The Movers did not deserve to lose by four goals as they were many chances by both teams throughout the game. The Movers went close many times, with Freddie Pitfield looking the likely to score. If we had taken our chances, the score-line could have been completely different. Man of the Match - Matthew White.
As this was the last game of the month, the first player of the month award was given to Dan Coombes, for his consistent performances on the left hand side in all games this season.

Sunday 7th October 2007   Dorset Cup   Heathlands YFC 1   Merley Movers 2
A great result for the Movers who just edged the home team in a hard fought match. Lots of chances from both sides throughout the game, but goals from Josh Williamson and Freddie Pitfield made sure the Movers went through to round 2 of the cup.
It was a fine team effort and our defence held solid. Man of the match was the ever-improving Josh Owen.

Sunday 14th October 2007   Merley Movers 2   Okeford United 3
‘We were robbed’ is the saying that comes to mind as the Movers came back from 3 goals down conceded early on. At half time the score was 2-3 with Freddie Pitfield scoring both and some good midfield work assisting both goals from Dan Coombes and Sean Hill .The second half was nearly all Merley, but it was just not our day as Ashley Muttons’ goal looked to have cross the line but was not given.
The fact that the Movers came back into the game from 0-3 down and never gave up was very positive. Man of the Match was Freddie Pitfield.

Sunday 21st October 2007   Merley Movers 0  Blandford Bulldogs 1
The Movers played really well in a close fought and very entertaining match in which neither side deserved to lose. Chances were few and far between and a draw looked like to be on the cards until the visitors scored late in the second half.
Merley came back but just didn’t get the breaks they deserved. It was a fantastic team performance from all involved and the spirit of the team was encouraging.
Man of the Match was given to Scott Rutter, on his debut but there were very good performances from the whole team.

Sunday 28th October 2007   Merley Movers 3  Heathlands 4
A very hard fought game was played against Heathlands on Sun in weather that you would not send a dog out in! The Movers went up 1-0 early on in the game from a lovely strike from Freddie Pitfield. Heathlands equalized halfway through the first half, and with Merley then putting the pressure on, an own goal made it 2-1 to Merley. Heathlands scored again just before half time against the run of play to make it 2-2.
The second half started with Heathlands looking the strongest and an unlucky own goal by the Movers gave the visitors the lead. Heathlands increased the lead to 2-4 with a long range effort and with around 8 mins to go it looked grim for the Movers. Ashley Mutton then scored for the home side and it was a frantic last 5 mins in which the Movers were once again very unlucky not to get a draw out of the game.
In our last 3 games we have been so unlucky and have not deserved to lose ,but I guess that’s football! Man of the Match – Matthew White.

Sunday 4th November 2007  Dorset Cup 2nd Round   Dexter Sport 5  Merley Movers 2
With a few players missing the Movers went into this game not knowing what to expect as Dexter play in the Bournemouth league. Dexter made the better start, but it was Merley who scored first from a fine strike from Ashley Mutton made from some good work on the right by Sean Hill.
Merley could have scored again, but the home side equalized before half time.
Early on in the second half Dexter took the lead, but the movers came back with a goal from Ryan Davies in which Josh Williamson made it very hard for the keeper to control the ball.
With about 6 minutes to go it was looking like extra time was looming although you always had that feeling that whoever scored next would go on to win. Dexter did score next and the Movers got caught out in midfield while pushing forward for the next 2 goals which made the score line very flattering for the home side. Man of the Match - Ryan Davies.

Sunday 25th November 2007   Merley Movers 0  Christchurch Youth 9
We went into this game knowing that we were playing top of the league that had already beaten us 15-0 at the start of the season. The first half was probably the best performance the movers had played all season with plenty of chances and when the half time whistle went the movers were only 2 goals down and still in with a chance.
2nd half saw me change the team around as the full squad was available and it went ‘a bit pear shaped’ to say the least. Final score 0-9 enough said I think! Man of the match Adam Lloyd.

Sunday 16th December 2007   Merley Movers 1  Sturminster Stars 2
Back to the old hard luck story with this one, didn’t take our changes were the better team and played some nice football but lost by the odd goal. Scorer for the movers was Josh Williamson. M.O.M Ryan Davies.

Sunday 13th January 2008   Blandford 11  Merley Movers 0
A bitterly cold windy afternoon, small squad and playing a team on top of there form
We did have plenty of chances in the second half but just didn’t that cutting edge.
M.O.M. Josh Owen.

Sunday 20th January 2008   Heathlands 5  Merley Movers 1
This was the 3rd time we have played Heathlands this season and having knocked them out of the cup on their ground the vibes were good.
Merley took the lead early on with a dipping shot from Ryan Davis, but the home side soon came back and went on to win the game convincingly. My personal thanks to all the parents from Merley who turned up and supported it’s a shame that all parents can’t behave in the same way as Merley FC did. M.O.M Josh Owen.

Sunday 27th January   Merley Movers 0  Sturminster Newton 5
Once again the same old story, went down early in the game to 2 goals then the last 15 minutes of the first half Merley dominated and played there best football. Very unlucky not to get a goal back before half time and to be honest didn’t want to hear the half time whistle.
Second half just didn’t happen for the movers and with ten minutes to go we were down to 5 outfield players due to injuries. M.O.M Ashley Mutton.

Sunday 17th February 2008   Sturminster Newton 4  Merley Movers 0
Movers went to Sturmy with a very small squad and the first half was a close fought game with both teams having plenty of chances. Sturmy came out on top but at 2-0 we felt we still had a chance especially as we were going down hill 2nd half.
It didn’t really happen for us in the second half and the boys really looked tired by the end of it.
Man of the Match was Adam Lloyd.

Sunday 24th February 2008   Rossgarth NP 2  Merley Movers 1
This was the most disappointing result for me this season as the boys gave it 110% knowing that a draw would have been enough to keep off the bottom spot this season. Merley took the lead from the returning Freddie Pitfield and it looked like we would mirror our home win against Rossgarth earlier in the season.
The home side scored near half time, and the second half was a frantic affair and the luck shone on the home side with a goal that was most fortunate. Merley carried on battling but the breakthrough didn’t happen and we went away feeling robbed of a point, not for the first time this season. Man of the Match was Scott Rutter.

Sunday 2nd March 2008   Ringwood Rangers 2  Merley Movers 0
Ignore the score this was a superb team performance by everybody against a Ringwood team who have finished 4th in the league .The Movers were by far the better team in a very entertaining game of football. Lady luck still stayed away from us as we all though Scott Rutter's effort would cross the line early on. Ashley Mutton had a superb right foot dipping shot brilliantly saved by the Ringwood keeper and the scores stayed 0-0 at half time.
Merley was against the strong wind in the second half but still battle on but the ball would just not go in. A very enjoyable game and I would like to say what a credit both sets of supporters were on the day. Man of the Match - Sean Hill.

Sunday 9th March 2008   Okeford 1  Merley Movers 2
The Movers dominated this game and played superb football throughout. From our last couple of games I was confident that we would get a win very soon as the boys have been playing some really nice football recently. Ten minutes before the match it looked like the game would be called off as an almighty hail stone shower appeared. Luckily this disappeared and right from the whistle the Movers won every ball, and went 1-0 up with a nice strike from Ashley Mutton. The boys carried on the pressure on the home team and were 2-0 up with a goal from Scott Rutter (his first for the team).
The second half was much the same although the home side looked stronger especially going down hill and nicked a goal back halfway through the 2nd half. The Movers kept their shape second half and although very tired our back two of Josh Owen and Matthew White held on and the boys thoroughly deserved the victory. Every one who played gave it 100% and I was impressed with the progress we made .
M.O.M was Josh Owen who was superb at the back.
