Lions Club 5 Nations Tournament

The annual Lions Club 5 Nations tournament comprised of u14's teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Eire. Merley were selected to represent the Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club by Mr Don Crabtree. Merley were entered in the competition, and started in round 3.

The draw saw Merley away to Berkhamstead Raiders on 9th Feb and a 52 seat coach was hired by the Lions Club.

9am we set off and after 3 hours arrived for our game, hopefully the boys had not had too many sweets and crisps on the journey! Half and hour later the game starts against a very big, physical team.

Our boys played well but after 15 mins we were 1-0 down. Another 15 mins and a sloppy goal conceded after a poor corner was only half cleared.

The match unfortunately lost we returned to their clubhouse for some food and drinks and a well deserved rest for the boys. 3 hours later we arrived back at Merley shattered but pleased to have taken part in what was a great footballing experience.

The Lions Club rep was suitably impressed with our boys performance and has offered to buy the club a new kit. Also, he would like next years U14's to take part in the tournament. I hope they enjoy it as much as we did.
