Match Reports

Sunday 3rd September 2006  Merley Allendale 0  Rossgarth 2
Our first match of the season was played at Fenners v Rossgarth, we lost 0-2, with man of match Martin Barker. Team played very well but unfit and run out of steam.

Tuesday 5th September 2006  Redhill 8  Merley Allendale 0
Finally found correct venue after being told wrong place by confused secretary! Probably would have done better to stay at other pitch, but got there with 3 mins to k.o. Sorted team out and decided to play 5 at back which worked very well, and under sustained pressure managed to get to half time only 1 goal down. Second half, tired again and collapsed, conceding another 7 goals. They were a well organized, physical and talented football team that finished 2nd in this league last year, so not so bad after all. Gave us plenty to think about and work on and hopefully we'll give them a better game at home! Man of match was Sean Brown.

Sunday 10th September 2006  Merley Allendale 2  Poole Town 1
Match 3 home at King George V v Poole Town. A strong squad of 14 gave us a good advantage against a 10 man Poole team. However, we started slow and struggled against a determined team who gave their all. An exciting game saw us go ahead by a James Clarke goal. Poole equalized and it looked like 1 point, until their energy sapped. Perry Danvers hit the far post, we had two goalmouth scrambles cleared that looked dead cert goals, and then Jack Clements scored the winner. A well needed 3 points earned by hard work by all our boys, well done lads. Man of match - Christopher Wickens.

Sunday 17th September 2006  Corfe Mullen 1  Merley Allendale 2
Always a tough  match against our neighbours made harder by a slow start from our boys. We went behind by a goal due to untypically poor defending. Having gone behind we started to play by James Clarke forcing an error in Corfe Mullen's defence and then went on to score a cracking individual goal, over the keeper and into the far corner.
1-1 at half time and Merley raised their game, challenging for all the loose balls, defending strongly, the back four of Christopher Wickens, Mark Zimmerman, Martin Barker and M.O.M Daniel Bolter held Corfe Mullen back. A counter attack saw Christopher Wickens hit a pass over their defence and set James Clarke up for his second goal and our second win of the season. Well done boys.

Sunday 24th September 2006  Merley Allendale 1  Greenfields Youth 2
A home match at King George V against arch rivals Greenfields, in the Bournemouth Cup 1st round.
As we were missing two key players, Mark Zimmerman and Sean Edwards it was always going to be a hard game, saying that the boys started well and scored fairly early with a good goal from Joe Tilson. After that we found it difficult to control the midfield and either had 8 last line defenders or 6 strikers. Greenfields never gave up, and when they equalized they sensed the game was theirs for the taking. With some unlucky defending we went behind, and although we battled bravely and never stopped running we couldn't score and the game finished 1-2. M.O.M going to William Gourlay. Thanks to all the parents who helped. C u all at training.

Sunday 1st October 2006  Portland United 1  Merley Allendale 4
Having been surprised by a phone call from Portland u13's on Tuesday evening, telling us were playing them in the first round of the Dorset Cup on Sunday 1st away, I told the parents the good news at Saturdays training, and like the good bunch they are, they wrapped up warmly and we set off for the draughty heights of Portland Utd. Playing with the wind behind us in the 1st half we set about the game in our normal style and couldn't take advantage of the weather. After Portland came close on 2 attacks, the 2nd hitting the post after a save by Lewis Meaden, the boys upped their game, and we went in front with a goal by Jack Clements who followed in a parried shot and slotted the ball home. Nice to see us following up our attacks, well done Jack. Martin Barker scored the second, once again not giving up in the box, and at half time we were 2-0 up.
Fearing this may not be enough in the conditions, we started playing some good passing football which led to 2 great goals by our back in form scoring machine James Clarke. The first saw James shrug off 2 defenders to score and the 2nd was a cracking LEFT foot strike that looped over the goalie and into the far corner. Portland scored a consolation goal and the game finished 4-1. M.O.M Sam Prince for a good solid game in midfield.

Sunday 8th October 2006  Broadstone 4  Merley Allendale 0
Away at Corfe Mullen Rec. against Broadstone. A lively game seeing lots of chances at both ends from the start. After 13 mins the deadlock was broken and Broadstone went ahead.
More near misses from both teams and Broadstone scored a second after 33 mins. A super shot from Thomas Humphries across the goalie who tipped it round the far post. Another chance for James Clarke, one on one with the goalie and a great save spoils our day. Broadstone then scored again after 40 mins.
Tireless running from the midfield namely Dan Bolter, Perry Danvers, William Gourlay and Sean Edwards couldn't keep Broadstone back and they scored their fourth and last goal in the 50th minute.
A good effort by our boys definitely not reflected in the score line. Hard luck boys it just wasn't our day. M.O.M Perry Danvers.

Sunday 15th October 2006   Rossgarth 2  Merley Allendale 0
A difficult away game at Potterne Park with several key players absent. On a tricky pitch Lewis Meaden performed well in goal, with another assured game from Mark Zimmerman and few chances up front, it looked set for a draw until 2 late goals settled it for Rossgarth. Despite this our lads battled to the end with strong performances from Tom Humphries and Stephen Dowling. M.O.M Mark Zimmerman. Thanks to Ray Brown for running the team in my absence and Ian Edwards for this report.

Sunday 5th November 2006   Merley Allendale 2   Poole Borough 9
This Dorset cup 2nd round match was a game of two halves, the difference between the two teams was the finishing.
Our boys started off really well with the midfield of William Gourlay, Sean Edwards, Dan Bolter and Chris Wickens, working really well to control the game and create some good chances with Sean Edwards finally scoring from a half volley to give us the lead. However, Poole steadied themselves and with their only chances of the half managed to score twice before the break. In the second half our luck deserted us and every chance they had they scored. Perry Danvers scored from a penalty for us in reply. Overall a much improved performance from our boys and if we can take our chances the results will come. M.O.M Sean Edwards.

Sunday 12th November 2006   Merley Allendale 1  Bournemouth Electric 7
Another hard game against a technically better, high flying team. 5 - 0 down at half time despite some gallant defending from Mark Zimmerman and Martin Barker the game was over. However, we matched them for work rate and effort in the second half and really took the game to them. Playing some good football the whole team was rewarded by a well worked goal scored by Sam Prince.
The second half performance was excellent and bodes well for the future especially as we never gave up and were always looking to play and score. M.O.M Daniel Walon.

Sunday 19th November 2006   Merley Allendale 0  Lymington Robbins 5
Our first game of the season at the school saw us up against last year’s league champions who, boy for boy, must have been 10cm bigger. Ray Brown sent out a well motivated team again, who at times made it very physical for the Robbins especially Martin Barker playing up front who came very close to scoring twice, as did James Clark. Sean Brown, William Gourlay and MoM Stephen Dowling worked really hard with Lewis Meaden pulling off some fine saves in goal. However, we were undone by the Robbins passing and a couple of unstoppable shots. Another good performance that deserved more than we got.

Sunday 10th December 2006   Lymington Robbins 8  Merley Allendale 1
Away game to a very good passing team saw us contain them for the first 15 minutes in fact we nearly took the lead then went one down to a quick counter attack. We then had a lapse and conceded three more in a five minute spell. Stephen Dowling bravely played on despite being injured until our two substitutes finally made it to the game and we could replace him. Lewis Meaden's heroics in goal kept the score down with Sean Edwards as stand in centre back alongside Mark Zimmerman the defence worked their socks off, Daniel Boulter even heading the ball off the line. Out played we battled on and in the last minute we got our reward with a superb goal from Joe Tilson with a shot just outside the box seconds after Sean Brown nearly did the same. MoM Mark Zimmerman.

Sunday 17th December 2006   Merley Allendale 0  Corfe Mullen 3
A very tight game that we should have won. With some really good play we controlled the game and had numerous shots on goal from Mark Zimmerman, Perry Danvers, William Gourlay and James Clark amongst others. Despite conceding a goal against the run of play midway through the first half the boys really took the game to Corfe Mullen and were punished at the end by 2 set piece goals. MoM Mark Zimmerman.

Sunday 7th January 2007   Bournemouth S.C. Grange 7  Merley Allendale 0
A depleted Merley team of only 10 boys were up against it right from the start. Lewis Meaden was outstanding in goal really commanding his area and winning all the 50/50 balls. The late addition of 11 year old Sam Walon standing in for his older brother gave us equal numbers, but playing into a fierce wind we were 4 down at half time. In the second half Chris Wickens, Jack Clements, James Clark and Sean Brown all had chances to score but it just wouldn’t go in and, caught on the break, we conceded 3 more. Nevertheless, this was a good performance from which we deserved something. MoM Lewis Meaden. Note the Daily Echo was present for the game and pictures and a report should appear this Wednesday.

Sunday 14th January 2007    Merley Allendale 2   Broadstone 3
A good game and our best performance so far this year. Playing five across the back and a three man midfield, Perry Danvers, Sean Brown and William Gourlay worked their socks off to get the ball up to Jack Clements and James Clarke who came close to scoring several times. Two lapses of concentration by giving Broadstone space from which they scored left us 2-0 down at half time.
Straight after the break a Broadstone corner resulted in another goal a thundering header which keeper Lewis Meaden stood no chance. But the boys had the bit between their teeth and fought back dominating the second half. Fine wing play from Daniel Boulter got our first goal when his cross came back and he headed in from close range . Numerous other chances came and Tom Humphreys following up at the far post tapped in our second. In the final minutes we nearly got the equaliser which we richly deserved. MoM Daniel Boulter & Daniel Walon.

Sunday 18th February 2007    Merley Allendale 1   BSC Grange 0

Three points well deserved after some of their best football of the season. The whole team played to their potential in a hard fought contest at Fenners Field. A defence built around the outstanding Mark Zimmerman, with Chris Wickens, Sean Brown and the returned from injury Stephen Dowling proving solid and unpanicable, they coped with everything Grange could muster, backed up by ever dependable Lewis Meaden in goal. Forwards James Clark and Jack Clements played everything that Sam Prince and Sean Edwards supplied from midfield putting real pressure on their goal. Before a through ball from Joe Tilson eventually found Daniel Knight who calmly put it away to settle the game 10 minutes from time. MoM Perry Danvers
