A new season is upon us all and the boys are
looking great in their newly sponsored kit. Many thanks to “Organix” for
sponsoring our team this season; it is greatly appreciated by the Club and our
team.
I am pleased to welcome to our team Omar and Nayim
Bejjada and Romulas Lam who have in the past been regularly attending
our training sessions. It also gives me great pleasure to “re-welcome”
Kieran Foley (signed from Poole Borough). I hope that the boys and
their families will feel welcome and be able to participate in assisting
the successful running and support of the team.

FANTASTIC! A great start to the new season. ALL the boys
played well and it was a joy for their families to watch their sons
enjoying what they like to do best ….. play football.

The game got-off to a great start with our first goal being
scored within ten minutes by Kieran Foley. The whole team “gelled”
together, producing some great passes and fighting for every ball.
Our next goal was again scored by Kieran and Matt Miles our
goalkeeper played superbly. Two minutes until half-time and Dean
Donovan scored our third., giving a half-time result of 3-0.
During the second half, both teams came out fighting with our
opponents trying to break our defence. With only 10 minutes
remaining the score had changed to 3-2. With only minutes to go
Kieran produced yet another goal giving our team a respectable score
of 4-2.
Well done boys.

This was the local derby game against a team placed third in the
table. Pride was at stake as the majority of the boys, from both
teams, attended Allenborn Middle School!
The game got off to a great start with M.A.Y.F.C. going up 1-0
during the first 10 minutes with a goal from Kieran Foley. 5 minutes
later the game was level. Unfortunately the result went downhill
from then on for our boys. At half time the score was 6-1 to the home side.
During the second half our boys went out with determination and
spirits began to rise when Omar Bejjada scored our second goal
giving a 6-2 score. Another goal was scored by the home team giving
a 7-2 score, but still fighting with determination Dean Donovan went
on to score our last goal in the game. Final score 9 - 3. A
disappointing result but a good effort boys.

Allendale 7 Portland Blues 1
Going up against a team who were level on points with goal
difference to their advantage, we knew at the outset that it was
going to be a challenging match.
During the first half our defence had to work hard and our
goalkeeper made some confident saves. Daniel Hughes then broke
through to score a cracking goal, (his first ever goal for MAYFC
since finding his vocation in left midfield!).
During the second half Merley played superbly. All the hard work
during training produced excellent results in the match with some
great passing and a further 6 goals from our team. The 2nd and 4th
came from Dean Donovan, the 3rd and 5th from Kieran Foley, the 4th
from Jonathon Pike and the 7th from Daniel Hughes (no stopping him
now!). The visiting team managed to score a consolation goal during
the latter part of the second half, but our boy left the pitch to
applause and congratulations from their families and supporters.
Well done boys, great result.

The boys went into this game knowing that they were level on
points with the opposition. A win was required to remain in our
third position.
The first half we started off well, with much of the play
being hard fought between both teams. The home team were first to
score but our boys kept their composure and their heads up. 5
minutes later Chris Goldsmith levelled the score giving a half time
result of 1-1.
During the second half both teams continued to battle and another
goal was scored by the home team. The boys refused to be defeated
and they lifted themselves up by producing an equalizing goal from
Omar Bejjada. With only a few minutes to go Rossgarth produced the
final goal of the match giving a final score of 3-2.

Our team was confident that all three points could be won under
normal circumstances; however three of our key defenders were unable
to play the game. The team had to play harder than ever. Within the
first 15 minutes we conceded our first goal, but with continued
determination the boys produced some excellent football and soon
after the goals began to “roll in” with Dean Donovan producing the
first goal. 5 minutes later Kieran Foley scored the second. The
third goal came as a result from Chris Goldsmith’s throw-in onto
Daniel Hughes, who took control of the ball and passed it through to
Dean to produce the third goal. Half time 1-3.
Going into the second half the boys kept attacking with Daniel
Hughes once more running the opposition “ragged” down the left hand
side with a “cracking shot” producing our fourth goal. Kieran Foley
went onto score the fifth and Dean the sixth. With Harry Brown’s
consistent defending at the left back closing the opposition’s play
down. The home side gave our goalkeeper Matthew Miles little to do
up until the last twenty minutes when our defence sat back and
conceded two goals within 10 minutes. Finally Omar Bejjada made a
run down the right and produced the 7th and final goal of the game.
Well done boys, great result.

3rd round Poole Town Colts 1 Merley 4
This team we had played the previous week, coming away with a
comfortable win.
The game started well for our boys, going 1-0 up within 5 minutes,
with a goal from Kieran Foley. Unfortunately the game became a “bit
scrappy” with some very bad refereeing decisions being made against
Merley. 2-0 up by half time with yet another goal from Kieran.
During the second half the home team pulled one back giving a 2-1
score. During the last 20 minutes Dean Donovan scored our third
goal. Consistent bad decisions were made by the referee with our
team losing the chance of being awarded a penalty. During the final
10 minutes of the game Daniel Hughes took the ball from the ½ way
line and scored the fourth and final goal.

Sunday 19th November 2006 Broadstone Colts

The Merley boys started the game well with Daniel Hughes on the
right fighting for every ball. 10 minutes into the game and we
scored our first goal. This was as a result of a pass from the
middle of the pitch by Dean Donovan into the path of Daniel Hughes;
who continued through to slot away a great first goal. Chris
Goldsmith and Jonathon Pike continually managed to cover the pitch
and Dean and Kieran Foley played well up front producing good
football all round during the first half of the game. Half time
score: 0-1.
During the second half of the game Merley applied more pressure on
the home side with a great strike from Dean Donovan; which their
goal keeper managed to push the ball onto the bar. With just 10
minutes remaining Dean Donovan scored the second and final goal of
the game. Our goalkeeper had little to do during the whole match,
probably touching the ball only a couple of times!
A well played game by both teams and well earnt 3 points for our
team. Well done boys.

From the outset of the game the team knew it was going to be a
tough game, playing against a Bournemouth League, division one team!
We weren’t wrong. By half time we were 4 goals to nil, but not
without trying on our part. The second half improved slightly with a
goal from Jonathon Pike during the last ten minutes. The opposing
team was too strong for our boys, despite their perseverance and
effort.

This was the last game of the year and the boys wanted to go out
with a bang. So they did!
Within the first minute of the game Dean Donovan puts Kieran Foley
through to give 1 nil up. The boys played superbly with Daniel
Hughes and Omar Bejjada running down both sides of the pitch giving
the visiting team’s defence all kinds of problems. Dean Donovan went
on to score the second goal as a result of a well struck angled
shot. The third goal came from Chris Rimmer as a result of a rebound
off the goalkeeper. Just before half time Dean Donovan “knocks in”
the fourth giving a half time score of 4-0.
The second half started off more or less the same with Dean Donovan
scoring the next 3 goals. Half way through MAYFC were awarded a
penalty which our Captain, Jonathan Pike took and scored the 7th
goal. At this time the visitors heads went down which resulted in
another 5 goals being scored by Jonathan Pike, Kieran Foley, Dean
Donovan, Chris Rimmer producing a final score of 12-0! Well done
boys, excellent result pushing us up to third place in the table.

Sunday 14th January 2007 Merley Allendale 2 Wimborne Boys 2
This was our first game of the New Year playing against a team
who had this season not lost a game yet, and were placed at the top
of the table! We knew it was going to be a tough match and the boys
went out with determination and kept most of the possession from the
start. After just 15 minutes Dean Donovan crossed the ball into the
path of Kieran Foley who scored our first goal. The whole team
started to gel with the back four keeping the opponents at arms
length. The mid-fielders did a great job in winning the ball,
producing some great team play. Half time score 1-nil.
The second half started off just as well, with a second goal
being produced much in the same way as the first, with a good cross
from Dean to Kieran. Fighting for every ball our first mistake came
from an own goal. 60 seconds to go our second mistake followed
allowing our opponents to score their second goal. Well done to ALL
the boys for giving 100% to the game.

The boy’s arrived after a very good result last week against
one of the top two clubs in the league, hoping to get the three
points from a side they had beaten well at home. The game started in
blustery conditions with our boy’s playing the better football and
putting most of the pressure around the Portland goal area. The only
thing that seemed to stop Merley from going ahead was the flag happy
linesman for the oppression. Just after the midway point of the
first half we were awarded a penalty which unfortunately we missed.
The second half started well again for Merley but the wind
was getting stronger and keeping the ball down one side of the
pitch, not helping either side. Merley finally managed to get the
ball in Portland’s net but even though they had changed the linesman
at half time this one was just as bad flagging offside to cancel the
goal out. Our boy’s heads seem to go down after this allowing
Portland to attack and put pressure on Merley’s defence, finally
ending in a penalty to them. William not having much to do for most
of the game made a magnificent save to keep the score at 0-0. Just
before the end Portland managed to score but this goal was also
offside making the final score 0-0.
Well played to the entire team in difficult conditions.

Rossgarth 2
Playing against a team who were placed third in the table, the
game started off well for Merley with a goal being scored by Kieran
Foley. During the second half our boys defended deep in our own
half, keeping the opponents at bay. With just 10 minutes to go
Rossgarth scored an equalizing goal. The boy’s moral went down with
such late disappointment resulting in a second and final goal being
scored by their opponents.

Our opposing team hadn’t lost a game all season and the boys
knew they were in for a tough game especially as we only had the
minimum of 11 players on hand and one of our main strikers out. By
half time our concerns had been realised with a score of 6-0 down.
It wasn’t meant to be our day ……….. final score 9-0, our worst
result of the season.

With last weeks disappointing result behind us, the Merley boys
started off the game being the stronger of the two teams, with some
good football being played. Within the first 5 minutes a throw-in
from Jonathan Pike to Chris Goldsmith, who then headed into the path
of Dean Donovan to score our first goal. Ten minutes later from a
corner kick, Dean crosses the ball into the path of Chris Goldsmith
who scored number 2.
The third goal came from a strike from Kieran Foley, who
found the back of the net. Twenty five minutes into the game Dean
puts his second away. Half time score 4-0.
Second half, with Chris Rimmer coming off injured the defence
suffered with the opponents scoring their first goal. Ten minutes
later they scored their second goal. A change had to be made to get
the boys back on track and with two minutes until the end Omar
Bejjada put number 5 away with a tap-in. A well earned 3 points.

From the beginning of the game our boys knew they were to play a
team who were placed in the bottom half of the table. However we had
two players away on leave.
The boys soon settled down and played some good football.
After just 10 minutes we went ahead with Dean Donovan putting Kieran
Foley through who found the back of the net. With William Bugden
playing left back (normally our goal keeper) he worked hard and
played well as it was his first game out on pitch. 20 minutes into
the game and Kieran Foley scored our second goal.
After half time, Dean Donovan and Omar Bejjada worked well
together, setting up Kieran for goal number 3. The team were in
great spirit and further lifted when
Callum Stones went on to score the 4th and final goal. An enjoyable
and well played game by all.

Sunday 25th February 2007 Merley Allendale 2
Broadstone 1
This team, placed mid-table, we last played on their home ground
and won 2-0. The conditions of this game were difficult with wet
ground and strong winds. Despite these factors the boys produced
some good football with most of the play being in the middle of the
pitch. 20 minutes into the game and our first goal was scored, due
to hard work and commitment from Dean Donovan; who crossed the ball
from a tight angle into the path of Kieran Foley who followed
through into the back of the net. Lots of chances were created but
we just couldn’t produce another goal in the first half.
During the second the half, the wind was against us and we
were playing uphill! The boys worked extremely hard and half way
through the second half, with yet another cross from Dean to Kieran,
our second goal was scored. Our opposing team fought back and
scored their first and only goal. With just 2 minutes until the end
of the match Broadstone were awarded a penalty. The Merley boys
spirits were high and Will’ Bugden kept the visitors at bay with a
superb save. Well done boys, a hard fought and well deserved
result.

Hamworthy United 5
This fixture was one that the boys went into not knowing what
they were up against, as they had yet to play the team.
Kicking off from the start the boys settled down well and played
some good team football, pushing the ball around between themselves.
Our opponents soon settled down and due to a mistake by our defence
and goal keeper the score soon went to 1-0 down. The boys soon began
to realise that this was to be a long, hard fought game. With just 2
minutes until half time, Dean Donovan was awarded a free kick. From
just outside the 18 yard box, with a superb free kick, Dean floated
the ball into a crowded box with the goal keeper putting his hand to
it which allowed Kieran Foley to tap in our first goal. Half time
score 1-1.
During the second half the opposing team went ahead with
their second goal. The boys frustration produced some further
improved football. Merley were then award a corner kick which Chris
Goldsmith taking a superb cross onto the head of Chris Rimmer to
head home the equalising goal.
The score resulted in our opponents being even more determined for a
winning result which they achieved with a further 3 goals being
scored.
Despite the result, a well played game.

Kingswood 2
This was our last home game of the season. Our last game against
this side left our team deflated. The boys went into the game with
determination, playing against an organised team. During the first
20 minutes Merley had the best of the play producing some great
football, until a well struck ball from Kingswood gave them their
first goal. Our goalkeeper didn’t stand a chance.
Within the following 5 minutes Kingswood went on to score their
second goal, despite our goalkeeper, William Bugden, getting a hand
to it to palm the ball back into the path of the opposition.
The boys continued to battle on through the remainder of the game
but they just couldn’t produce the finishing touch. Bad luck boys,
very well played and enjoyable for all to watch.

Sunday 1st April 2007 Blandford Barbarians 0 Merley
Allendale 4
This was a game which we needed to win. Merley started off well
with some great football being played between them all. Within ten
minutes of K.O.
Will Bugden received the ball on the half way line, lobbed it into
the opponent’s 18 yard box with Daniel Hughes on the receiving end,
who then passed it into the path of Kieran Foley, who then proceeded
to score our first goal.
From then on Merley dominated the game. Goal no. 2 came from a
superb corner kick from Chris Goldsmith onto the head of Chris
Rimmer who put it away with great strength. 2-0 up at half time.
The second half was much the same as the first half with the Merley
boys domineering the game. The boys played some of their best
football of the season. Our opponents became despondent and Merley
took advantage with another corner kick by Chris Goldsmith crossing
the ball over to Dean Donovan, who slotted our number 3 goal in.
With only 5 minutes until the end Kieran Foley went on to score his
second goal of the game giving our 4th goal.
A well deserved 3 points. Well done boys.

This was our last game of the season and we were placed fourth
in the table. Our opponents were placed fifth in the table, with
four games in hand. We knew it was going to be a difficult game.
From kick off the boys played some attractive football and within 10
minutes the home side were 1-0 down thanks to Daniel Hughes striking
the ball into the bottom corner. A great goal! Within the last 10
minutes of the first half the home team equalized. Half time score
1-1.
The second half started with our boys playing with
determination, however with the half time changes the boys lost all
their rhythm. Despite having several chances the boys just couldn’t
finish and despite several great saves by our goalkeeper Matthew
Miles the match end in a 4-1 score.
